With the PS3 you can not only watch and record freeview|HD digital TV, you can do both at the same time and share this with your PSP, Sony Vaio Laptop  and Sony Ericsson AINO mobile phone. Couple this with the TVNZ on demand offering already available and the built in bluray drive the PS3 is shaping up to becoming a significant home entertainment device. 

So how is this going to work? PlayTV is a USB based device that will allow up to 13 days of Electronic Programming Guide (EPG) and promises to be extremely easy to use. Being Freeview|HD you will need to ensure you can receive the Terrestrial Freeview signal. Of course unlike some PVR’s you can upgrade the Hard Drive on the Sony PS

The device alone will cost $199.95 for existing PS3 owners or if your new to the PS3 market Sony are releasing a special 320GB console which will include the PlayTV for $729.95. Compare that to a new Freeview|HD PVR and you will find that the PS3 bundle offers alot of value for the price. So well done Sony, our hats are off to this great addon for the PS3. I guess its now Xbox’s move.
