Far Cry New Dawn
Far Cry New Dawn is a standalone sequel to Far Cry 5 game and picks up 17-years after the events of that game. So yes, you’re still in Hope County, but no, New Dawn is more than just a post-apocalyptic paint job, and whilst Hope County will still feel familiar, it’s also plenty different.
The game itself is a familiar set-up for longtime fans of the series. After struggling to build a thriving community years after nuclear devastation, the survivors have just been knocked back down by the arrival of the Highwaymen, lead by two young females who never lived in the pre-apocalyptic world, and now take everything they want and burn everything else.
This nomadic road-warrior tribe has set up camp in Hope County and it is up to you to help the survivors get rid of them.
Yes, it sounds just like every other Far Cry game, but it’s not quite.
Crafting weapons and equipment now depends on what materials you have managed to scavenge, and what level you have upgraded certain parts of your camp too. Outposts now have the option to recycle them and unlock tougher versions to once again liberate. Each time you recycle an outpost it gets outfitted with more powerful enemies, more alarms, and but you’ll also get bigger rewards for liberating them.
If you power through the main story missions, you’ll probably come up disappointed. The actual story isn’t a ‘full game’ length. But there is so much to do outside the main story that will keep you going for a long time.
New Dawn is an interesting move for the Far Cry series. It’s a stand-alone game, but not really a full game, but way too big to be an expansion. It sits comfortably in the middle ground we never knew could produce so much fun, and whilst it may have been a bit of a cash cow whilst UbiSoft decide where to take the series next, it’s a pretty decent cow that will draw you in, and keep you stomping around Hope County for some time.
