Fallout 4 Has No Level Cap
Unlike previous games in the series, Fallout 4 will not have a level cap, and will allow players to keep playing even after completing the main storyline.
This morning on Twitter, Bethesda Game Studios confirmed that “Fallout 4 doesn’t end when the main story is over and there is no level cap. You can keep playing and leveling.”
To our fans who’ve asked: Fallout 4 doesn’t end when the main story is over and there is no level cap. You can keep playing and leveling.

This is a departure from earlier Fallout games, which all had limits to how high you could level your character. Fallout capped at 21; Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel capped at 99; Fallout 3 capped at 20, or 30 with the Broken Steel add-on; and Fallout: New Vegas capped at 30, with each expansion adding an extra five levels to a maximum of 50.
While continuing the game after completing the story is common in open-world games like Fallout, this wasn’t the case in either Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas, though the former did add this with the Broken Steel add-on.
