DVD Review: Allied

Allied is a World War II period, romantic espionage drama. Yes drama. Others may want to refer to Allied as a thriller, but they live very sedate lives where the highlight of their week must be watching the grass grow.

Now don’t get me wrong, Allied has everything going for it, directed by Robert Zemeckis, starring Marion Cotillard and Brad Pitt, with plenty of scope for intrigue and excitement. But something went badly wrong along the way.

Whilst there is no denying that Allied has it’s moments, and overall isn’t an absolutely terrible night on the couch, it pretty much flatlines for the entire film. The story is predictable, and you can see the twist coming a mile of, and the ending is so sanitised as to make you feel like throwing up in a dirty bucket.

Having said all that I think my wife enjoyed it more than me, so maybe I’m not the right demographic.

Rating: M Violence, offensive language, sex scenes & content that may disturb.
