Zombieland 2: Double Tap
This review may contain slight spoilers but we honestly don’t believe they will ruin the viewing experience.
When news that a Zombieland sequel was in the works first dropped, I was very excited. How could I not be, Zombieland was, hell, still is, one of the best zombie movies ever made. And the fact that it took so long to deliver a follow-up means this wasn’t going to be a quick cash grab.
But then when the trailers dropped and it became evident that our favourite quartet was going to be joined by a pair of doppelgangers – one who was going to be played by an annoying Luke Wilson – and an extra from Legally Blond, I started to get worried. Worried that these newcomers would take over too much of the story and ruin the dynamics of the original.
Fortunately, my fears were unfounded. These extras are but comedic blips on the radar. Mere cannon fodder for the zombie apocalypse.
So the story revolves around our heroes settling down into domestic bliss. Though that bliss is wearing thin. Little Rock is no longer just the kid sister to Wichita, but a young lady who has needs of her own, and an overbearing father figure in Tallahassee is not one of those needs. So when Columbus gets down on one knee and proposes to Wichita. So the next morning the men wake to find that the ladies have done what they always do – bailed and taken the family car.
But things go a little differently as Little Rock has learned from her big sister and decides to go it alone. Fearful for his sister, Wichita, of course, returns to the only family she has left, and an epic road trip to save Little Rock gets underway.
Things are a little different in Zombieland these days, as the zombies have evolved, and now come with an apex predator class of zombied, dubbed the T-800 in reference to the Terminator films. These babies are hard to take down, and the first family of Zombieland is going to have to work together just to survive.
Zombieland 2 starts off well, continues to build and ends with an epic post-credits scene.
It may not be as good as the original, but as far as sequels go, Zombieland 2 is up there with the best.
