Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

When we watched the trailer for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and saw the scenes of Drake hanging from the end of a train carriage that was dangling over the edge of a mountain rock face, we both looked at each other and said… this is gonna be good.

So was it? Absolutely! Uncharted is the best blend of action, shooter and cryptic rolled into one edge of your seat game. From the very get go right through to completion there is no down time. I liked how you could look up your stats during and after the game to find out how long you’ve been playing the game and how long your character spent of the time doing different activities. For example how long he spent climbing, running, standing still, shooting and the rest.

In Among Thieves the story line revolves around Nathan Drake as he embarks on a journey that will push him to his physical, emotional and intellectual limits to discover the real truth behind the lost fleet of Marco Polo and the legendary Himalayan valley of Shambhala. Just like the previous Uncharted and all but the latest Indiana Jones movies the fictional story line is merged with historical facts and legend. Which helps to create a story flow that draws you in intensely as you try to find the truth and solve the mysteries around you. Of course there are always options and a lot of them involve shooting.

Now one of the other super awesome additions to the uncharted platform is the addition of some brilliant multiplayer levels, in which you can join up with others online to battle the bad guys or even become the bad guys yourself and take on your friends or complete strangers on the playstation network. Another awesome interactive part of this game is the introduction of inbuilt twitter updates. Load your twitter info into the game and it will keep everyone in the loop as to how you’re going and where you’re up to. So that you can compare your achievements with that of your friends.

The combat action within Among Thieves is a lot more free-flowing than in other games, in most cases you don’t need to beat the bad guys in a particular order or manner. You can go stealthy or all guns blazing. Unlike other games where you die or fail if you chose the wrong way, in Uncharted 2 you do it your way. I like shooting, so I’m not that sneaky so that suited me just fine.

I am completely sold on this game and the team at the games designers “Naughty Dog†give a resounding reason as to why Playstation 3 is fast becoming the gruntiest gaming platform around.
