Buried in the middle of Mesopotamia, one must ask and reflect if it should have never been unearthed. Following a dying genre of film, the big screen minimalizes the power that was once ancient Egypt and creates dusty relics of the past that lack revitalization.
Evil lurks in the darkness of the shadows where greed of power and control breed the most selfish of desires. Princess Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella) sells her soul to rid her lineage of any opposition to the altar of a living god. Nick Morton (Tom Cruise) and his sidekick Chris Vail (Jake Johnson) are militant treasure hunters that line their wallets with ancient relics and gold that can be hawked on the black market. Nick steals to find his way and ultimately unearths the ancient secrets of the dark.
Jenny Halsey (Annabelle Wallis) is the archaeological expert toward the story that unravels and holds connections to a higher authority that specializes in the secrets of the underworld. Employed by Dr. Henry Jekyll (Russell Crowe) she is accompanied by a small army that wields futuristic level technology that can help tame the most infinite of foes.
Multiple worlds collide as a story of trust and betrayal execute jumps, explosions, and thrills on the big screen to unite and bring about a weapon of mass destruction and a sequel that is best left buried and a remnant of the past. Lacking plot and new discoveries there was so much more this story could have been with a creative team rewriting the narrative of the once powerful ancient Egypt in all its glory that has sadly been mummified since 2008.
