Pick Four: November

Ok, please tell me you know what game is being released in ten days time. Tell me that you’ve already pre-ordered it, and that you know it’s the most anticipated game of the year. Please tell me that it’s no surprise that this game is going to be the one to kick off our Pick Four for November…

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

What can I say? It’s the sequel to the best selling first person shooter of all time. It’s one of only two games that I’ve ever pre-ordered. It’s probably going to be the most played game in my collection – second only to the first Modern Warfare. If you don’t know why I’m dribbling like a fool in anticipation, you might just be at the wrong website. Return to today’s war front with the second chapter in the Modern Warfare series. Modern Warfare 2 continues the gripping and heart-racing action as players face off against a new threat dedicated to bringing the world to the brink of collapse. Playing as as Sgt. Gary “Roach” Sanderson, your international squad of elite soldiers battle through harrowing combat scenarios that range from snowy mountaintops in Siberia to the crowded streets of Rio de Janiero, Brazil and beyond, facing a terrorist force hellbent on redefining the boundary lines of today’s modern warfare. Players can face the threat alone or with other players in cooperative SpecOps mode. For even more intense combat, take up arms against online foes in enhanced deathmatch warfare on a host of Modern Warfare 2 maps.

Divinity II: Ego Draconis

I was able to play a little bit of Divinity 2 before sending it off to one of our reviewers, and I have to say it looked quite impressive. Not being a huge RPG fan – though I do love a bit of Fallout 3 – Divinity 2 would probably fall silent in the shadow of Modern Warfare 2 being released only a few days later, but if you like the RPG genre, this is definitely one to look out for. In Divinity 2 – Ego Draconis, players find themselves once again in Rivellon, a timeless world full of awe and magic, shattered and frightened by the apocalyptic wars of the past. No one knows why so many people had to give their lives. Everything seems to be over, but the peace was deceptive, for the demon has returned and the horror once again runs its course. Players begin as a Dragon Slayer, hunters whom travel the countryside determined to rid their lands of Dragons. As the story of Divinity 2 – Ego Draconis unfolds, the player will discover new abilities and possibilities as they evolve into a legendary Dragon Lord. In addition, the player character’s abilities can be steadily improved over the course of the game and specialised in specific areas. The further a player quests in the world of Divinity 2 – Ego Draconis, the more exciting the gaming experience becomes. Over the course of the game, players will be able to find many items which have special game-play functions; some can be combined with others to advance further in the game. Additionally, players can use a large variety of weapons in their struggle against a seemingly inevitable fate. An extremely varied and demanding quest structure guarantees hours of fun and a high replay value.

Left 4 Dead 2

If there’s one game that will drag me away from Modern Warfare 2 it’s going to be Left 4 Dead 2. I missed out on the original (must have had me head in the sand) but after getting some hands on time at Armageddon, I’m looking forward to this with as much drooling s I am Modern Warfare 2. Left 4 Dead 2 is the sequel to the best-selling and critically-acclaimed co-operative multiplayer smash from Valve. The title adds melee combat to the award-winning L4D style of play, with items such as a chainsaw, frying pan, axe, baseball bat, and more. The setting is at roughly the same time as the original – just after the outbreak that turned most of the population into various zombie mutants. Players assume the role of 4 new “Survivors,” each with their own personality and new dialog. The game leads these Survivors through the south-eastern region of the US – from Savannah, Georgia thru the bayou country, and climaxing in New Orleans’ French Quarter. Left 4 Dead 2 offers a much larger game than the original with more co-operative campaigns, more Versus campaigns, maps for Survival Mode at launch, and more…

Lego Indiana Jones 2

Trust me on this one, playing Lego Indiana Jones on the PS2 with my daughter was an absolute blast – there are plenty of reasons for leaving ‘serious’ gaming behind and just messing around having fun!

LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues combines the fun and creative construction of LEGO bricks with the wits, daring and non-stop action of one of cinema’s most beloved adventure heroes. With a unique, tongue-in-cheek take on all the Indiana Jones films – including for the first time ever Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – LEGO Indiana Jones 2 follows Dr. Jones’ escapades from the jungles of South America to the Peruvian Ruins and beyond. Fans can experience the most authentic LEGO experience yet by designing and building their own levels brick by brick, and by fusing their levels with the ones in the game to create a custom experience. In LEGO Indiana Jones 2, everyone can build, battle and brawl their way through their favorite cinematic moments – or create their own.
