Minecraft XBox One Edition – Gameguide

When is a new release game, not a new release game? When it’s the newly released Minecraft Xbox One Edition. It’s the same game as the 360 version, only 36 times bigger, and with an expanded multiplayer option.

So why the big hullabaloo? Because Minecraft is a fascinating game, and if you already own it on the 360, you’ll be able to pick up an upgrade for $7.45, or if you’ve never played it before, the full version is only $24.95. It’s the natural progression away from the 360 to the One. Hopefully Sergey Khmelevsky will soon bring World of Tanks across to the One and my 360 can be handed down to the kids.

Essentially a world building and exploring game, Minecraft is played out on a randomly created world, and made of distinctly different blocks. Your job is to mine these block and build things, all the while fending off the tame and not so tame locals. Dig deeper into the game and you’ll soon be crafting items and building a fortress to hid in from the things that go bump in the night.

It’s like playing God with a world created by Ole Kirk Christiansen.

If you’re not too keen on the hard work of having to mine for resources and crafting what you can with what you have, then there is creator mode, and kind of cheat mode that turns Minecraft into the worlds biggest pile of Lego and lets you go wild with access to every mineable and craftable item available.

I gravitate towards creator mode, with the safe setting, that means nothing will attack and kill me. I don’t have the time or patience to do the hard slog, but there’s something relaxing about being able to fire up the Xbox One and just start building immense structures lairs or landscapes.

What I’m going to have to do however, is buy an extra controller, as it’s a lot more fun building along side my daughter, who is a Minecraft addict.
