FIFA 17

The problem with writing a review for a game that has had annual releases since the mid 1990’s is that not a lot really changes between releases, I mean it’s a soccer game for crying out loud. It’s probably the most fun and easiest to pick up soccer game available, and the best looking. But it’s still the same soccer game that it was last year, just with a few tweaks.

The biggest tweak seems to be that this is the first time EA have used it’s Frostbite engine for a FIFA game, and the graphical improvements are noticeable. Other big changes are the inclusion of a story mode called “The Journey” where you play through the story of a fictional player known as Alex Hunter. It’s essentially a more cinematic version of Be A Pro. The difference between this and career mode is that you have specific tasks to complete in each match and you have do training between every game.

My favourite play mode is career and playing as a single player rather than the whole team. Having to make sure you are in the right place at the right time to get the ball passed to you is half the fun. Running solo up the field and scoring a goal after running past the defense is a lot harder now, with the AI having had major tweaks, and even seeming to learn over the course of a game.

The graphical improvements mean better character models and player interaction, meaning less of those odd hugs with arms protruding through backs in the post score huddles.

All in all, FIFA 17 is a bit more of a major step up from past yearly releases and is definitely worth purchasing for both loyal fans and general gamers.
