DVD Review: Baby Driver
Baby Driver is part heist film, part car chase and part musical but without the singing. Yes musical, because the film moves around the music rather than the music being the background to what is going on. And it’s all because of a clever mechanic employed by the genius Edgar Wright. That mechanic is the Baby of Baby Driver, played by Ansel Elgort. You see Baby has tinnitus and uses music to drown out the noise, so to speak. He can’t perform without a musical soundtrack. In fact he has a new one for ever heist he’s the getaway driver for.
So the film is literally driven by music.
But it’s not just music, it’s an electric mix of action, comedy, romance and some very bad people that play along with the beats.
And because it’s Edgar Wright it just works for some magical reason.
Really, really, really works.
