DVD: 12 Strong

Lets just be honest, the trailer made this film look like a shit-show of epic proportions. In the immediate aftermath of 9/11 an small squad of elite Special Forces is sent on essentially a suicide mission to help out a friendly tribe in Afghanistan, and end up riding into battle against tanks on horse back.

Yes the trailer for this true you-had-to-be-there-to-believe-it story makes it seem like some kind of patriotic joke, that will end up with the audience rolling off their couches in fits of laughter.

It even has Chris Hemsworth, though to be honest this cheese factor is offset magnificently by Michael Shannon, so things are looking up.

12 Strong however decides not to go down the road of so laughable it’s bad, rather delivering a tight little action film that defies logic, and whilst has a few too many spoonfuls of American over-patriotic rhetoric, delivers an entertaining and interesting (gasp) look at a mission so wild it should probably never have been given the go ahead.
