Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

I’m pretty much an XBox fan. It’s my console of choice, has been for years. Most of my friends play on it, and all of my social gaming is done on it. My PS4 is pretty much an entertainment center. A BluRay player and Lightbox and Netflix enabler. I’ve eagerly anticipated many PS4 exclusive games only to be left disappointed. Despite my not really fussed attitude towards the Uncharted series, the trailers I had seen for the game had me once again holding out to the hope that there was finally a reason to have a PS4 other than as a media center.

I received an advance copy of Uncharted 4 about a week prior to the games release, and in that week, not once did my XBox One get turned on. Not once. In Uncharted 4 I had finally found a PS4 exclusive that I genuinely found a pleasure to play. It was fun and addictive, and had me in it’s steely grasp from the first play.

It was like taking a hit of crack cocaine, I just had to keep going back for more.

For those unfamiliar with the Uncharted series, it’s a bit like Indiana Jones meets Lara Croft, but without the tight shorts and bouncy boobs. It’s an action adventure where gun play goes hand in hand with solving puzzles and climbing cliff faces. And being a PS4 exclusive title, it is all rendered in stunning detail.

From my vague memories of previous games, it seems like everything has been improved in this final outing, from the fighting to the shooting to the climbing mechanics, everything just flows much better. Now if you fall to your death, it’s really on you and not a broken game mechanic.

Of course Uncharted 4 still suffers from linear gameplay and the occasional frustrating moments caused by bad scripting, but for the most part is free-flowing and on occasion you may actually get lost in the linear journey trying to find the correct way to go.

I’m not going to tell you about the story or how things jump around, because the story is half the fun in Uncharted 4. You will however travel the globe and partake in varied gameplay that keeps the journey fresh and interesting. You will burn the midnight oil as you promise your self, just a few more minutes as the hours creep into the morning.

Uncharted 4 is the first game to make me happy that I’m a PS4 owner.
