I can see now, why so many reviewers have called games like Dante’s Inferno and Darksiders, clones of God of War. Being a God of War virgin, I’m more likely to call God of War a clone, but one would have to ask the question, what came first?

So in his third adventure, we get to play the character Kratos, who is in the middle of raining carnage and destruction upon the Gods who he sees as having betrayed him and the entire Ancient Greek world. Armed with his deadly double-chained blades, Kratos will take on mythology’s darkest creatures while solving intricate puzzles on his merciless quest to destroy Olympus and the mighty Zeus himself.

Essentially what I like to call a hack and slash game, God of War II is definitely visually crisper than both Dante and Darksiders – though that may have more to do with the PS3’s greater graphical punch compared to the 360’s of which the former two games were reviewed on.

With gameplay being very similar, kill or be killed, follow the path, solve puzzles, find secrets etc, it’s nice to see each game having it’s own visual style.

God of War III sees you scaling Mount Olympus with the help of a gigantic rock she-monster. This gives some very interesting battle grounds that can see you fighting on a standard level playing field, to one that moves and flips over causing you to hang on and fight, to having to fight your way as you scale walls.

For the most part, the mythological creatures sent to dispose of you will be nothing more than cannon fodder to which basic button mashing will handle. It’s when you get t the big bosses that you have to think of your strategy, and keep an eye out for visual clues as to what combination of buttons to push to perform the killing blow.

God of War III is a visual feast or gore and mayhem that will no doubt please fans of the series and will defiantly appeal to fans of Dante’s Inferno and Darksiders.
