Treyarch believe that Call of Duty: Black Ops’ Multiplayer was the most difficult game within the franchise to balance.

When speaking to CVG, Treyarch’s Community Manager Josh Olin said that it was a harder task to balance the game in comparison with previous Call of Duty titles.

With the introduction of CoD Points and rare but devastating super weapons (from Care Packages), he notes that it’s been a “much more difficult game to balance” but reassures us that the studio has “stepped up to the plate”.

He mentions that there’s a lot of stuff that contributes to the balancing worries which includes CoD Points and that “XP is always a tough thing to balance out”. Josh goes on to talk about how the introduction of currency means that they not only have to balance the weapons and perks but also the cost of them.

With previous games, Treyarch were working on multiple projects at a time, but now the whole studio is focused on just Black Ops, meaning that it’s ever so possible to balance the game despite how challenging it may be.

With a dedicated Multiplayer team since day one it has allowed them to “use their resources to make more than we’ve ever made before” but to also “really polish and balance it to the degree that it was necessary”.

In this 11 minute long menu walkthrough, Donell Tucker and Chris Monfette talk about everything you can customize your character with to make it really your own and make it stand out in the crowd. This is the first video we’ve seen that covers this much of the menu screen. After covering the perks, which has not seen major innovative changes, they move on to how equipment and weapons are reordered. Besides new stuff, they are now categorized differently into three categories; Lethal, Tactical and Equipment.

The new equipment features a Tomahawk, which will replace the throwing knife from Modern Warfare 2. Along with the good old Frag and the Semtex grenades, the Tomahawk completes the Lethal equipment category (mapped to the right bumper on the controller).

In the Tactical equipment category (mapped to the left bumper on the controller), we see a couple new and very interesting equipment. A couple we already know from previous Call of Duty’s; Willy Pete (smoke grenade), Flashbang, Concussion (stun grenade). More interesting though, are the added equipment like the Nova Gas canister, a grenade that impairs movement, blurs vision and causes damage over time. Another very interesting addition to this list is the Decoy, a grenade that will simulate gunfire and radar indicators on the mini-map of the enemy team. This can be extremely useful to lure someone in a trap.  Read the rest of this entry »

There isn’t a huge amount you can say about the new add-on pack for Red Dead. I guess one of the biggest additions is the new locations to wage battles over. Technically not new locations so much as locations previously not set up for multiplayer. They have all been tweaked to have more cover and guns. From the taste I got the balance was ok although by the time I found the sniper rifle on Blackwater the round was over, damn those roof top shooters.

They also add in new playable characters from the first Red Dead, they looked alright but a few of them had unfortunate clipping issues that might only be a problem when they are assuming the pose in the character select screen.

Finally the new weapon, the tomahawk, nothing really game changing but it’s always fun to have something new to throw at people.

All in all the first paid content seems a little weak, Sure doubling the multi-player maps is great and the new Achievements and Challenges give you something new to complete. I kind of expected this but I had my fingers crossed for some more co-op challenges or some other quirky side games.

Oh well, there is always next DLC

Once again the brains behind Infinity Ward and Activision have proven they understand the gaming market with the latest add-on for Modern Warfare 2. A staggering $2.4 Million USD was collected as it seems the entire world went Gaga over a new set of maps. But profits and patch issues aside.. How does the Resurgence map pack look.

We have broken down our review into each individual map.

We’ve heard scant details on the upcoming Treyarch title Call of Duty: Black Ops, but a new magazine feature is letting loose with much more information than we had before. The latest Official Xbox Magazine breaks down the new additions. As expected, players will spend at least some of the time fighting the North Vietnamese, but the lead character has a secret agenda as well. In the trek through Vietnam, the player will enter water engagements with a trusty knife, provide intel from an SR-71 Blackbird, and even take control of a helicopter.

The spread also shares more details on the multiplayer aspect. The co-op mode will feature separate levels, built specifically for it. Treyarch strongly hinted at a beta, and said they’ll be improving this game’s multiplayer based on player feedback from World at War. The developer also promises improved matchmaking, along with an enhanced Create-a-Class for added character customization.

“We’re all-in on this,” said Treyarch head Mark Lamia, committing all of his over 200 staff to working on Black Ops. “We’ve taken some creative risks. We want to do something different than we’ve done before. It’s time.” He also reportedly remarked that they “want the game to speak for itself.” – 1up

we-map-3Red Dead Redemption’s northern-most territory is West Elizabeth – home of the bustling Blackwater, one of the many modern, burgeoning new townships that sprung up across America in the dying days of the Old West. West Elizabeth may provide a taste of early 20th Century modernity, but also has it’s fair share of wilderness and danger. From wolves prowling the snows of Nekoti Rock to the fierce Grizzlies in the forests above Manzanita to the ruthless card sharks at the tables in Blackwater – traveling the north requires caution and wile.  Read the rest of this entry »

rdr-dragrace-3Today, Rockstar unveiled some of the Red Dead Redemption features that will await us at the Rockstar Games Social Club come May 21st.

For two years now, the Social Club has been our private club for players to track their game progress and stats, compete on leaderboards, unlock exclusive game content, and take part in official multiplayer events with live stream and chat.

Red Dead Redemption continues in that tradition and takes things to an entirely new level with a revamped website and seamless integration into the game itself. From within the in-game menus, you will be able to easily register for Social Club and automatically link it to your Xbox LIVE or PlayStation Network account. Then when accessing the Social Club website, you can complete your account and unlock 7 exclusive cheats right to your game.  Read the rest of this entry »

Call of Duty has always been about the soldiers in the trenches, so it’s interesting that the level of Call of Duty: Black Ops showcased by Activision and studio Treyarch kicks off with an operative leading colleagues from up above.

Hovering above from inside an SR-71 Blackbird, players will send orders guiding a group of four soldiers past a convoy of Russians in the Ural Mountains. They simply point to areas on the screen and hit a button to lead the squad, so don’t expect the complexity of, say, a Ghost Recon. But, similar to the view above an AC-130 gunship in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the SR-71 scenario offered a fascinating perspective of the battlefield.  Read the rest of this entry »
