Buried amongst the news of the PS3 Slim, was the news that Sony are releasing another portable platform to compliment the existing PSP.
The PSP Go is a light weight pocket sized gaming platform which actually packs quite a bit of punch. Gameguide was fortunate to spend a bit of time on the PSP Go, even trailing God of War, and it would be fair to say we were not disappointed.
The display is nice, the unit is easy to hold and the game felt very very responsive. In fact there really wasn’t much to complain about in terms of performance.
At first the unit looked a little fragile with the sliding screen exposing the game pad, and the top paddles felt a little small and crowded, but after closer inspection and a bit of game play it did look and feel like it would handle even the most robust gaming session.
While the unit doesn’t boast the same UMD disc device that its larger PSP brother has, it does have 16GB of flash memory, which is not only faster, but more than enough to hold a games and media files.
The PSP Go is set to launch October 1st and along with this launch are a host of additional games and Playstation Network features that are set to bring this and other Playstation Platforms to life.
One final note is the demonstration of Gran Turismo on the PSP / PSP Go. Polyphony Digital have clearly been putting in the hard yards to bring this successful franchise to the Playstation Mobile platforms, and it looks stunning. Best of all if you buy PSP Go at launch and register online, you get a free copy off the Playstation Network. Written by:
