Videogames seem to make pretty regular appearances on South Park, and last night’s episode offered another gem. This time, the gang were playing a fair rendition of Lady GaGa’s “Poker Face” in a Rock Band-style game – until Cartman started improvising lyrics to mock Stan’s concern about Japan’s whaling practices.

We’re not an American website, so we might be missing something, but we’re sure Wal-Mart’s new Modern Warfare 2 ad is missing the point. Whilst it might be funny seeing two guys trying to outdo each other on the phone, it really doesn’t sell the game. But then I guess Wal-Mart’s job is to sell Wal-Mart not Modern Warfare 2. The latest sales figures are in and it now seems the gloss is starting to come off Nintendo’s flag ship product the Wii. With reported sales in the last 6 months at $766.1 US Million, down 52% on last years figures, most are picking that this is a clear sign that the Nintendo Wii is on its way out.
The decline in sales of the Wii appears to be closely matched with the growth in sales of the Apple iPhone. As previously reported on GameGuide, the iPhone is infact the most popular portable gaming console of all (according to apple), with game titles well in excess of any other in its category.
Meanwhile the news is all good for Sony as the Playstation 3 has now become the #1 console in the United States.
While the report paints a bleak picture for the execs at Nintendo, it would be fair to say that there has been a stack load of other factors that has impacted the globe, and while Nintendo may be licking a few wounds they have always shown a uncanny knack to hang in there and pull one out of the bag once in a while.

Left 4 Dead 2 may follow the Splosion Man route of offering wearable Avatar items for in-game accomplishments, according to a post on the Steam Forums (via MTV Multiplayer). A user with the handle “Fade Guy” found some items listed in the .txt file of the recently released demo. Among the awards are a med kit and frying pan, along with several t-shirts. The items are split into two categories: “in game” and “xlast,” the latter of which is widely assumed to be the Xbox 360 Avatar items. We’re not sure what the “in game” category describes (which includes the frying pan), but it’s still under the header of Avatar. Read the rest of this entry »

November is going to be a huge month for gamers, not necessarily on the number of games being released, but because of two games in particular. It would be a fair bet to say that Modern Warfare 2 will be the biggest selling game of the year and go on to become the biggest selling First Person Shooter of all time. When that games drops on November 10, there will be a lot of people either taking sick days or turning up to work looking like zombies. Ten days later a number of gamers will be conflicted in their loyalties when Left 4 Dead 2 releases, unleashing a stumbling mass of zombies for the eager to dispatch. Read the rest of this entry »
