Black Ops Goes 3D
In a surprise announcement, Activision has just revealed that the Call of Duty franchise will be going 3D for the first time. If you’ve blown an enormous wad of cash on a fancy 3D telly you’ll be able to mow down your Cold War foes in an extra dimension.
“Development of stereoscopic 3D began as an R&D project, but once we saw what the technology brought to the Call of Duty experience, what a great fit and how immersive it was, we knew that we had to develop it for Black Ops,” said Mark Lamia, Studio Head of Treyarch in the press release.
“Aiming down the sights of your weapons, flying in helicopters, rappelling down mountains, and moving through highly detailed environments are just some of the awesome experiences you will have in 3D with Black Ops.” “We made sure the experience is seamless for gamers to use with a simple menu option to enable stereoscopic 3D or disable it at any time whether playing in the single player campaign, multiplayer or Zombies” added Lamia. Apparently, the 3D mode has only a tiny effect on the frame rate of the game as well, suggesting this is an impressive technical feat rather than just a bolted on extra. -OXM
