Next Call of Duty Details Coming Soon
Despite expectations that Activision might formally announce the next Call of Duty game during today’s investors conference call, that didn’t turn out to be the case. Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick noted the extreme pressure the company is under to create a high-quality title with its new release and said that we’d be learning more about the series’ future in the “coming weeks.”
It was noted that the newest Call of Duty has “exceeded every internal milestone” and that it will be shared with the public “soon.” The Beachhead content, which was announced earlier this year and has been in development “for almost two years,” will be seen in this year’s game. As has been said previously, “The platform will support in-game integration and bring online experiences and console play together for the first time.” The goal with Beachhead isn’t to take away the content you expect from a new Call of Duty game. It was said during the conference call, “We are not attempting to monetize or take any experience away that currently counts as part of the value proposition of buying the game.”
Expect map pack releases to continue into the future as Activision continues to enjoy a great deal of success with them. After Black Ops’ First Strike pack saw more than 1.4 million downloads in its first 24 hours, the recently-released Escalation map pack is said to already be outselling the second map pack for Modern Warfare 2 by over 20%. “I think it’s fair to say that the downloadable content for Call of Duty has more commercial potential on its own than most standalone console games,” said Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg.
